Hello and Happy 2015!
First off, I can’t believe this is my 1st post of 2015…I have been slacken’ a bit lately (with good reason)…but let’s leave that for another update coming later this week, shall we?
I can’t think of a better way to start the year off than with a post about my new favorite breakfast spot in Central Florida!!
I’m a breakfast food FANATIC! It’s my favorite meal of the day and I could eat it for Breakfast (duh), Lunch, and Dinner! It was a tradition growing up in our house to have “Breakfast for Dinner” at least once a week (thanks mom) that included eggs, bacon, and grits!
Even though I enjoy the occasional “frou-frou” brunch with mimosas dining at a restaurant on a Sunday morning, there is nothing quite like pulling college sweatpants on, throwing my hair up in a messy bun and hopping in the car to head to a local diner for a good, traditional southern breakfast.
This past weekend, I called up my little sister to ask what she was doing to see if she wanted to go get some breakfast (both our hubby’s were out doing man stuff) and to her excitement she tells me “YES! Let’s go to Mary’s! You haven’t been there before!”
Since it’s a little hike, my sis decided it would be better to go in her car and so we met & headed out on our breakfast journey!
After 20 minutes, halfway down a deserted State Road somewhere in the Mt. Dora area in the middle of farmland…I briefly feared that she had an ulterior motive of leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere because of all those times I ratted her out to my parents or the times I “borrowed” her hair straightener…then I saw a recognizable landmark (Scott’s Corn Maze) and my fears subsided…
FINALLY after about 10 more minutes of driving we come up to this cute little one story building that says “Mary’s Kountry Kitchen” and I immediately know I’m in for some “good home cookin’ ” as my dad would say.
Excitedly we get out of the car, walk in to the bustling restaurant and are seated immediately. A sweet waitress comes up and hands us menus (she’s super excited because they JUST got menus) and my sister tells me I need to order the Country Fried Steak…OK. Done deal.
Our food came out quickly and included delicious eggs, hash browns that were perfectly cooked (not greasy), and a delicious Country Fried Steak.
I was in heaven! The atmosphere was so pleasant and friendly, the staff was personable, and the food was amazing. Not to mention completely reasonably priced!
I came home afterwards full and told my husband all about how I’m taking him next weekend!…He didn’t argue with me.
After that entire story about my journey to Mary’s, I sincerely hope you decide to visit. I’m not going to lie, it’s a bit of a hike! But it’s a beautiful Saturday/Sunday morning drive and a wonderful atmosphere. Try it!
Mary’s is located at 15945 County Road 448, Tavares, FL 32778.
Their hours are 6am-9pm on Thursday-Saturday, and 6am-2pm Sunday-Wednesdays.
